I cut out spiders and spider webs, I put a couple of ice cream [popsicle] sticks in each folder. The students had to make patterns on the table using the spider as a one count note and the spider web as a quarter rest. The ice cream stick serves as a bar line.
We practiced making patterns on the tables and performing them with the rhythm sticks. The next time, the students were instructed to create a rhythm on the table and then we would pretend to go to a museum where all the students would see and perform each other’s rhythms.
