Increasing Vocabulary

Almost every teacher I talk to, regardless of grade or subject area, frequently tells me that the biggest hurdle they have to face when teaching is the issue of vocabulary.

Building our student’s vocabulary could be one of the more important things we can do as teachers.  I found a cute poster floating around pinterest and I thought I would share it with you here.

When you are asking students to describe music, or anything, challenge them to use “other ways.”  When a student says, “that was good.” You can ask, “What is a different way to say that?”  The student could then say, “That was exceptional!” Children love learning new words, and your teachers will thank you!
