I found this cute visual on Pinterest:

It comes from a smartboard lesson site that is currently “undergoing maintenance” so I’m not going to post that link.  However, I think you can get the gist of this without going to another site for a lesson.

I know that my little ones love figuring out how to translate common words into rhythm language so this is just another way of doing that! You can easily use this as a jumping off point for improvisation or composition- allowing students to create their favorite dinner in 3, 4, or 8 beats.
